At-Home Omega-3 Blood Test + BalanceOil

Before you buy another omega-3 supplement, find out where you are starting.

Most of us choose supplements on trust. We read the label, take them consistently and hope that something useful is happening.

The BalanceTest gives you something more concrete: a measurable picture of your current fatty-acid profile and a baseline you can compare again after 120 days.

Why is this worth knowing?

Fatty acids form part of the membranes surrounding cells throughout the body. They are also used to produce signalling molecules involved in many normal biological processes.

DHA is found in particularly high concentrations in the brain and retina. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart, while DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision.

The test answers one clear and useful question:

Is what I am currently eating or supplementing being reflected in my fatty-acid profile?

What does the BalanceTest measure?

Using a few drops of blood collected from your fingertip at home, the laboratory analyses 11 fatty acids.

Your anonymous report presents the results across six fatty-acid-related markers, including your Omega-6:3 ratio and Omega-3 Index.

Because red blood cells live for approximately 120 days, the result provides a longer-term view of your fatty-acid pattern rather than a snapshot of your most recent meal.

Take the BalanceOil consistently, repeat the test after at least 120 days and compare the same markers to see what has changed.

Your follow-up test is sent without an additional test charge, subject to your subscription remaining active and fully paid and Zinzino’s current subscription terms.

What happens when my result is ready?

Results are normally available online approximately 10 to 20 days after the laboratory receives your sample.

If you purchase through my link, you can send your report to me when it is ready. I will review it and send you a personal voice note explaining what the markers show, what stands out to me and whether I think anything else is worth exploring.

At-Home Omega-3 Blood Test + Vegan BalanceOil

Eating plant-based? Find out what is actually reaching your cells.

Flax, chia, walnuts and other plant foods can provide alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, an essential omega-3 fatty acid.

But eating ALA and having good levels of the longer-chain omega-3 fats EPA and DHA are not quite the same thing.

The body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA, but that conversion is limited, particularly the final conversion to DHA.

Research consistently finds lower EPA and DHA levels in people following vegetarian and vegan diets compared with omnivores, although what that difference means for long-term health is still being studied.

That makes this a particularly interesting area to measure rather than assume.

Why test?

The BalanceTest uses a few drops of blood collected from your fingertip at home to analyse 11 fatty acids.

Your anonymous report includes six fatty-acid-related markers, including your Omega-6:3 ratio and Omega-3 Index.

The useful question is:

Is the way I am eating and supplementing actually being reflected in my fatty-acid profile?

You may already eat plenty of ALA-rich foods. You may already take an algae supplement. Testing lets you see the resulting pattern rather than relying on the label or assuming that intake automatically equals status.

A vegan source of EPA and DHA

BalanceOil+ Vegan contains EPA and DHA derived directly from marine microalgae, rather than fish.

It also contains Ahiflower® seed oil, providing ALA and stearidonic acid, or SDA, alongside extra virgin olive oil and vegan vitamin D3.

SDA sits further along the omega-3 conversion pathway than ALA and is more readily converted to EPA, while conversion through to DHA remains limited.

Providing EPA and DHA directly means the oil does not depend entirely on your body's conversion of plant-based ALA.

Test. Change something. Test again.

Take your first BalanceTest before starting the oil to establish your baseline.

Use the BalanceOil+ Vegan consistently, then repeat the same test after at least 120 days and compare the markers.

Your follow-up test is sent without an additional test charge, subject to your subscription remaining active and fully paid and Zinzino’s current subscription terms.

If you purchase through my link, you can send me your results when they are ready. I will review them and send you a personal voice note explaining what stands out and whether I think anything else is worth exploring.

At-Home Gut Health Blood Test

A stool test can tell you what is there. This test looks at what happens next.

Your gut microbes do more than simply live in your digestive system. They transform parts of your food into compounds called metabolites. Some of these enter the bloodstream, where they can give us information about the relationship between your diet, your gut microbes and the way your body is responding.

The Zinzino Gut Health Test examines one particularly interesting part of that relationship: how tryptophan is being used.

Using a simple finger-prick blood sample taken at home, the laboratory measures three tryptophan-related compounds:

  • Indole-3-propionic acid, known as IPA, which is produced when certain gut bacteria metabolise tryptophan

  • Tryptophan, an essential amino acid obtained through food

  • Kynurenine, which is produced when your own body metabolises tryptophan through a different pathway

From these three measurements, the report provides five markers:

  • Gut Health Index: a combined overview of the measured compounds and calculated ratios

  • IPA Level: the amount of this gut bacteria-derived metabolite found in your blood

  • Gut Microbiome Efficiency: a calculated IPA-to-tryptophan ratio

  • Microbiome Immune Support: a calculated comparison between the IPA and kynurenine pathways

  • Immune Stress Indicator: a calculated kynurenine-to-tryptophan ratio associated in research with immune-response activity

Why is this useful?

Finding a particular bacterium in a stool sample does not necessarily tell us whether it is active or what it is producing.

This test adds a different layer. It provides a selected snapshot of microbial output and tryptophan metabolism, helping us ask better questions about how your food, gut microbes and body may be interacting.

It can be a useful starting point if you want to explore gut function without completing a stool test, or if you want something measurable to place alongside your diet, symptoms, health history and wider picture.

It does not automatically mean that everyone needs more fibre or the same generic gut protocol. The result needs to be considered in context.

Taking the test

Take the test in the morning following a water-only overnight fast of at least 10 hours.

Your sample is analysed by Vitas, an independent laboratory in Norway. It is linked to your unique test code rather than your name, and results are normally available online within 10–20 days.

If you order through my link, you can send me your report once it arrives. I will review it and send you a personal voice note explaining what the results show and whether I think anything deserves a closer look.

At-Home HbA1c Blood Test

Your blood sugar can look fine today. HbA1c shows the pattern building over the last three months.

Blood glucose changes throughout the day depending on what you have eaten, movement, sleep, stress and when the measurement is taken.

HbA1c answers a different question.

It measures how much glucose has attached to haemoglobin inside your red blood cells. Because those cells remain in circulation for several months, your result reflects your average blood glucose level across approximately the previous two to three months.

That makes it far more useful than one isolated reading when you want to understand the direction your blood sugar has been moving in.

Why is this useful?

Blood sugar is relevant long before somebody thinks of themselves as having a blood-sugar problem.

An HbA1c result can provide a useful baseline if you:

  • Want a clearer picture of your longer-term blood glucose

  • Have a family history of insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes

  • Have noticed changes in energy, appetite or weight and want something measurable

  • Want to see whether changes to food, movement, sleep or daily habits are reflected in your result

  • Care about prevention and would rather understand the direction of travel

The Zinzino test combines your laboratory-measured HbA1c result with a lifestyle questionnaire. Your personalised report places the result alongside your current habits and provides guidance to help you make more informed diet and lifestyle choices.

You can repeat the test after approximately four months to compare your results and see whether anything has shifted.

Taking the test

The test uses a few drops of blood collected from your fingertip at home. You do not need to fast before taking it.

Your sample is analysed anonymously by Vitas, an independent laboratory in Norway. Results are normally available online within 10–20 days.

At-Home Vitamin D Blood Test

Sunlight is the starting point. Your blood result tells you whether it has been enough.

Vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin because our skin can make it when UVB light reaches it.

I would love more people to build regular, sunlight exposure into their lives and have a light diet. The reality is that much of the Western world now lives indoors. We wake inside, travel inside, work inside and often spend the strongest part of the day behind glass.

This makes vitamin D relevant far beyond the UK.

Where you live, the season, time of day, skin tone, age, clothing and the amount of skin exposed can all influence how much vitamin D you produce. In Britain, there is the added problem that the sun is not strong enough during the darker months for the skin to make sufficient vitamin D.

Food and supplements can contribute too, but taking vitamin D does not tell you what level has actually been reached in your blood.

The only way to know your vitamin D status is to measure it.

The Zinzino Vitamin D Test measures 25-hydroxyvitamin D, known as 25(OH)D, which is the established blood marker used to assess vitamin D status.

Why does vitamin D matter?

Vitamin D contributes to:

  • Normal immune-system function

  • The maintenance of normal bones and teeth

  • Normal muscle function

  • Normal absorption and use of calcium and phosphorus

  • Normal blood calcium levels

  • The process of cell division

Testing gives you a measurable starting point. It shows whether your current combination of sunlight, food and supplementation is being reflected in your blood.

It also helps remove the assumption that more is always better. Your result can guide a more informed decision about whether your vitamin D intake needs attention and gives you something concrete to compare when you test again.

Taking the test

The test uses one or two drops of blood collected from your fingertip at home. Your sample is analysed by Vitas, an independent laboratory in Norway, using your anonymous test ID.

Results are normally available online within 10–20 days. Zinzino recommends repeating the test after approximately 120 days if you want to see how your level has changed.

If you order through my link, you can send me your report when it arrives. I will review it and send you a personal voice note explaining what the result means and whether I think anything deserves further attention.

This is a one-off test with no subscription.
